Architecture & Architectural Engineering

One of the unique strengths of the OSU School of Architecture is the combination of programs, faculty, and students in architecture and architectural engineering. These two curriculums are intertwined to the extent that architecture students graduate with significant technical abilities and architectural engineering students gain an in-depth knowledge and appreciation of the creative problem-solving approach of architects. This knowledge translates into marketable skills.

The design studio sequence forms the backbone of the architecture curriculum and it is a significant part of the architectural engineering curriculum as well. Architecture and architectural engineering students take the first three design studios together. Architectural engineering students then concentrate on design courses focused on structural analysis and design until they join together with architecture students in the comprehensive studio. Architecture students continue to utilize the design studio as a synthesizing experience throughout the curriculum. Architecture and architectural engineering students take the same beginning steel, concrete, and timber design courses.
